How to distribute fewer templates
One of the Systems2win strategies for keeping costs low is to avoid the inefficiencies of
a "Chinese restaurant menu".
It is less expensive for us to "just give you everything" (and then let each
customer remove what they don't want) than it would be to try to
personalize the delivery for each customer.

Why wouldn't you want your users to have access to every Systems2win template that you own?
|
If you are using Systems2win Sync, it is easy to limit the distribution of the Systems2win templates that you own.
Option 1) Simply delete unwanted templates
- Keep a backup copy of the original Systems2win deliverables - exactly as they were originally delivered
- Using My Computer or Windows Explorer - in your S2winPortal folder (on your shared server) - simply delete any Systems2win templates that you don't want your users to have
- The next time that each user syncs their templates, they will have only those templates that you did not delete
Option 2) Move less popular templates to a DontSync folder
- Keep a backup copy of the original Systems2win deliverables - exactly as they were originally delivered
- Using Dreamweaver or your favorite web site editing software (so that links don't get broken) - your S2winPortal folder (on your shared server) - move less popular templates to one of the DontSync folders
- The next time that each user syncs their templates, it will remove any templates found only in a DontSync folder
FAQ's
Can we distribute some templates to some users, and other templates to other users?
No. The same templates are synced with every user.
However... you could manually distribute to selected users a few templates that you remove from your master S2winPortal.
(Just email those templates to the users that need them. Each user stores those templates somewhere on their own c: drive)
How can we personalize our portal page - so that it doesn't still describe the missing template (with a broken link)?
It won't hurt anything to just leave your Portal html pages alone without doing anything.
When your users search for templates using your portal, they will just see what they're missing - with broken links to the missing templates - and every portal page already contains the user tip: "Links are active only for those templates your company has chosen to purchase and distribute to your users"
They won't even see what they're missing when they use any of the other alternative ways to find & open Systems2win templates.
Or you can easily edit your portal to remove any reference to the deleted templates.
The portal pages are intentionally written using generic HTML - to make it easy for your IT Dept to personalize using any HTML editing software (such as Dream Weaver).
Or you can hire Systems2win to personalize your portal for you.
What if we change our mind - and later decide to distribute some of the templates that we removed?
If using Systems2win Sync, you can just double-click your original S2winPortal exe file - and install it to any temporary location.
Then copy the desired templates back into your master portal on your shared drive.
And if you had edited your portal to remove any reference to the deleted templates - simply use your favorite HTML editor (perhaps Dream Weaver) to copy the HTML code back.
