No Portal Sync - User Instructions

Instructions for users with the portal setup decision of NoSync...

What does the NoSync option do?

When you change a user's setup choice to NoSync,
it disables both: Scheduled AutoSync, and Sync Now.

What's the difference between NoSync and turning AutoSync Off?

  1. NoSync disables both AutoSync and Sync Now

Turn Scheduled AutoSync On or Off just turns scheduled AutoSync on or off.
The user can still (perhaps unintentionally) Sync Now.

  2. NoSync works with older versions

If you haven't yet upgraded to get the new menu item that was added in November 2010
to Turn Scheduled AutoSync On or Off, you can still use the
NoSync feature that has been around for many years - and works with older versions.

Where is your S2winPortal when you use NoSync?

IF you are a user that has been set up with the portal sync setup option of NoSync
and you select Systems2win menu > Systems2win Portal...

then the /NoSync/home.htm page opens in your browser,
which instantly redirects to the c:/S2winPortal/home.htm page.
(so it still opens the portal home page on your local c: drive)

IF that doesn't happen...

then you must be using a version older than April 2010,
so you need to upgrade.

To set up a user with NoSync

Follow the instructions for how to change the setup choice for any user.

Tip: Prior to February 2009, sync was not optional.
In order to use the new disable sync feature, you might need to update your Systems2win application and/or upgrade your templates

Tip for really advanced IT Departments:
You can even edit your \NoSync\home.htm page to redirect to the S2winPortal home page of your choice,
thereby disabling Sync for users that directly access the S2winPortal on your LAN or WAN.
See the instructions on the \NoSync\home.htm page itself.
