Swim Lane Cross Functional Flowchart
The Swim Lane Cross Functional Flowchart shows the relationship between a business process and the departments/people responsible for each step. It serves as a powerful way to improve the flow of a process, by providing clarity and accountability of different functional units. In addition, it displays connections and communications between each unit, and therefore facilitates standardization and consistency of the process through visualization, analysis and elimination of delays and waste. This is an ideal tool for service and administrative processes that get handed over between teams, such as sales orders, proposals, quotes, purchasing, engineering changes, and financial statement month-end close.

What's New (September release)
In September 2019, new enhancements were added to the Swim Lane template, including:
- The new button to 'Add or Remove Rows or Columns' allows you to easily and instantly add or remove tiers of related rows for swim lanes, and/or tiers columns.
- The Value Add Analysis allows you to specify what percent of Process Time is Value Add (as perceived by your customer).
- Demand per Week can now be converted into Demand per any user-defined time period, (such as month or year).
- The Makigami Analysis provides 3 ways to depict and analyze forms, screens, and databases that carry or store information; and 3 ways to highlight problems and barriers to flow.
