Trusted Locations

To avoid the Security Warning dialogs explained in the next section...
with Office 2007+, you can save documents in folders that you have designated as Trusted Locations.

Excel 2007+ > Office button > Excel Options button > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings button > Trusted Locations

It is a good idea to define at least 2 folders as Trusted Locations:

  1. Your S2winPortal folder
(that contains your master templates on either a shared server or your c: drive)
  2. The folder(s) where you store most of the working documents that you create from Systems2win templates

Every time you open a workbook that is
not saved in a Trusted Location...

here's what you have to do...

If you choose a Medium setting... (as recommended above)

  • Office 97-2003 - each time you open a workbook,
in the pop-up dialog box, click the button to Enable Macros
  • Office 2007+ - each time you open a workbook,
in the Security Warning bar (that appears just below the ribbon menu - as illustrated in the picture below),
select Options button > Enable this content

Office 2007 Security ribbon

If the Security Warning bar fails to appear,
right-click anywhere on the ribbon menu bar,
then uncheck Minimize the Ribbon
(as illustrated below)

Minimimze the Ribbon

If you see this dialog...
it means one of 2 things...

Macros must be enabled

1) You need to enable macros
(as taught above)

2) You saved your file without macros

In Excel 2007+ > Office button > Save As
you can save your file in any file format
EXCEPT FOR the default file format (.xlsx),
which strips all macros

To recover your data from from a file saved without macros...
disable the Systems2win COM Add-In
then restart Excel
open your ruined file
copy and paste your data to a fresh template
