SharePoint's Own Sync

As a supplemental option to Portal Sync Setup Choice: SharePoint

If your company uses SharePoint, you will usually use one of our recommended sync setup options, rather than SharePoint's own sync utility. But there is nothing stopping you from using either or both.

Here's how to do it...

SharePoint's own Sync

SharePoint has its own features to sync from your SharePoint server to each user's local PC,
but it does so in a way that is very different from Systems2win Sync.

Where files are stored on each user's local PC Each user's default User Templates folder, (which is where Word and Excel templates
are stored)
Templates are stored in 2 locations on each local user's PC:

1) Each user's
default User Templates folder
,
(which is where Word and Excel templates are stored)

2) Outlook's Content folder
(which is impenetrable to any application other than Outlook)

To set up SharePoint's own sync

  1. Install your S2winPortal to a temporary location.
  2. Use your favorite web site editing software (such as Dream Weaver) to:
    1. Create a new sub-folder: S2winPortal\OutlookSync
    2. Copy every template from the tFolders into the OutlookSync folder
  3. Copy or upload the S2winPortal folder in its entirety to your SharePoint server
  4. Select the /S2winPortal/OutlookSync/ folder in your SharePoint portal administrator page...
then select Actions > Connect to Outlook

Whenever you personalize a template — you will need to remember to overwrite the master in both the usual /S2winPortal/tFolder/ and the /S2winPortal/OutlookSync/ folder.
